Frequently Asked Questions |
What is the Oak Park Temple Retreat?
It's a chance to connect with your congregation and community in a fun, activity-filled three-day weekend at a camp in Wisconsin. Is this retreat right for me? Absolutely! We have adult learning and activities, special programming for 4th graders, a kids program for other ages, including for 7th and 8th graders, babysitting for the littlest, and socializing for everyone. If you’re seeking a closer sense of community with your congregation, or just some fun away from home, this retreat is definitely for you. What activities are available for kids? Babysitting. (Ooh, sorry, that's an activity for adults.) Robin Arbetman and Marci Sperling Flynn will be programming a wide range of fun activities for kids of all ages. Where is the retreat located? The retreat is located at the Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (Camp OSRUI) near Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, about 2 ½ hours from Oak Park Temple. Click here for directions to the camp. What are the accommodations like? Each room in the dorms has at least two beds and a private bath, except for Nerenberg (dormitory style with shared baths) and some semi-private baths in the Bayit. There are some adjoining rooms. Register early to get the room you want. What does it cost? See Registration form for costs. Seriously, Wisconsin in March? Some years it has been 70 degrees, some years not—just like any spring in the Midwest. Come prepared for anything. Arriving and Departing Camp It generally takes about two hours and fifteen minutes to get to camp from Oak Park, assuming you’re NOT leaving during rush hour. Ideally, try to arrive between 5:30 – 6:00 pm so that you will have plenty of time to unpack and get settled. It’s MUCH easier to find camp and your accommodations in the daylight. We’ll have camp open at 4:00 pm for earlier arrivals. For those of you who can’t escape the city earlier, dinner will be at 7:00 pm. On Sunday, our program will conclude before lunch. |
